General Accountant

Type: Contract Permanent Part-Time

OTUS Group is looking for a General Accountant to join our growing team.  This is a permanent part-time contract position that offers flexibility. The position will provide full-cycle accounting to OTUS Group’s clients. Potential to become full-time.

The ideal candidate is experienced using both QuickBooks Online & Desktop, Sage 50 and has worked on multiple sets of books, preferably at the same time.

Experience in accounting for not-for-profits, associations, and charities is highly desirable.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Complete full cycle accounting for various clients up to and including financial statements
  • Budgeting would be considered an asset
  • Responsible for Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
  • Process payroll in various payroll systems such as Payworks, Ceridian, ADP
  • Preparations of monthly balance sheet analysis
  • Preparation of monthly variance analysis actual to budget
  • Ability to prepare monthly and or quarterly forecasts
  • Prepare year end working paper for annual audit
  • Other duties as assigned relevant to the position

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years completing full cycle accounting
  • Post-secondary education in bookkeeping or accounting, combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience with external payroll providers such as Payworks, ADP, or Ceridian
  • Experience with Telpay
  • Experience with QBOL apps such as Receipt Bank
  • Experience converting accounting databases to QBO is highly desirable
  • Self-motivation to work well independently with little or no supervision as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to work at client sites as well as at home
  • Advanced skills in Excel including pivot tables
  • Certification as a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and/or Sage Advisor is considered an asset
  • QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop and Sage 50 environments
  • Knowledge and experience in bookkeeping for not-for-profits, associations, and charities
  • Experience working in a cloud-based, paperless environment
  • Sound judgement regarding confidential and sensitive matters
  • Strong proficiency in client-focused service
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Attention to detail and high-level accuracy


  • Own vehicle is desired to travel to various client sites
  • Own cell phone and own laptop are mandatory
  • Training will be provided on an as needed basis
  • Ongoing mentorship will be provided as required
